BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAIROBI,17TH JUNE 2018- It is sweet freedom for three Kenyans who had been jailed in Ethiopia for alleged telecommunication fraud after they were finally released and handed over to the Kenyan authorities .

Three had served  three years in Kalit Maximum Prison.

The three were welcomed back to an emotional reunion with family members and received by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday night .

The three – Maxwel Omondi, Jedrick Mugo and another unidentified individual – were then transferred to Mater Hospital for check up and monitoring after which they will be handed over to their families.

PS Kamau apologised to the ex-convicts’ loved ones for the long time taken to secure their release.

The trio were among five Kenyans arrested in Ethiopia after travelling to the country for work.

One of them, Zack Muriuki, moved to Ethiopia on January 9, 2015 after his company assigned him to a client. He, however, died in the prison after developing respiratory complications.
