BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,8TH JUNE 2018-35 traders operating without license at the City market in Nairobi central business district have been arrested in an operation conducted by the directorate of County inspectorate in the county.
Addressing the press after the operation Nairobi Director of the Enforcement Peter Mbaya says that the crackdown started on Monday targeting among others those slaughtering chicken and fish in the market without medical certificate .
He added that the move has led foul smell coming out from the market and also jeopardizing hygiene .Several Kilograms of meat being sold without license was also confiscated and will be destroyed.
He further added that 70 illegal traders were arrested on Monday, 26 arrested on Thursday and 35 illegal traders arrested today leading to a total of 131 illegal traders arrested.
It emerged that it is only 1000 traders at the busy city market have permits to conduct their business in the market while other have been operating illegally.
