BY SAMSON MBII,MACHAKOS,25TH AY-M Harambee Stars were beaten 1-0 by visiting Swaziland in an international friendly match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Friday 25 May.
Stars under the management of new coach Sebastien Migne who was overseeing his first match after being made head coach earlier in May were undone by a Barry Steenkamp goal in the 78th minute. The attacker doing well to hold off his marker to chest a lofted pass from the right wing and place the ball past a hapless Boniface Oluoch.
For Swaziland it is third time lucky as the win is their first on Kenyan soil after two other meetings saw them shift five goals and score none in return. In 2000 the Southern African nation went down 3-0 to James Sianga’s charges before succumbing 2-0 seven years later in 2007 to Jacob Mulee’s charges.
The team will look to offset the recent poor run that sees them without a win in three matches when they host West African nation Equatorial Guinea in the second match of five scheduled friendlies on Monday 28 at the same venue.
Migne is the third French coach to lose his first match in charge of the national team. Bernard Lama and Henry Michel are the others.
