BY JOAN WANJIKU,NAKURU ,23RD MAY 2018-Heritage Insurance has today donated building materials worth KSH. 150,000 towards supporting the victims of the Solai Dam tragedy that happened a few weeks ago.
The support which has been spearheaded by the Heritage Insurance Corporate Social Investment arm will see the insurance firm support the affected families through rehabilitation of their homes by providing iron sheets and other building materials to enable them rebuild their lives afresh.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the materials, Heritage Insurance Managing Director Godfrey Kioi noted that the positive gesture by Heritage staff was a show of support and solidarity to the victims at this time of need.
“We were moved by the plight of thousands of families whose lives were shuttered and who now do not know where their next meal will come from. With this little support, it is our belief that the affected families will be able to get back to their feet and continue building the economy faithfully as they did before this unfortunate incident happened”, Godfrey said.
As part of the firm’s long term plan for the victims, Heritage Insurance will adopt a project that will involve rehabilitation of either a school or a health facility that was destroyed during the calamity. The identification of the facility will see the locals suggest which area is in need of immediate support and Heritage Insurance will come in handy to provide the necessary assistance.
Heritage CSI operates on the pillars of education, health and environment. This particular initiative is part of the Heritage Disaster Relief Fund that aims at providing immediate assistance either in monetary terms or through social service that is derived by a rich pool of expertise from internal staff.
