Government assures Subukia dam tragedy survivors of help as t death toll hits 41

BY NAMULONGO PETER/CORRESPONDENT,NAKURU,10TH MAY 2018-The government has assured the victims of Solai dam tragedy that they will be given the necessary support to rebuild their lives.

Speaking when he toured the area to check the status of the ongoing multi-agency search and rescue operation following the Patel Dam disaster.

Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has said the government is working closely with the county government of Nakuru to see to it that the affected families are given temporary shelter as well as food.”Nasema pole na rais Kenyatta pia amenituma nilete pole zake,tumehuzunika sana.Said Matiangi(I say sorry for your loss and the president has also sent me to convey his  heartfelt sorry  due to this unfortunate incident).”

”The National Government is working closely with the County Government on this; and is at hand to assist the families affected”he added .

The CS has also urged the residents to work with government in ensuring that security was assured in the area.

Meanwhile   death toll in the Subukia dam tragedy has hit 41 even AS  rescuers  continue  searching for more people reported missing.

According to Rift Valley CID Chief Gideon Kibunjah  21 of the dead are adults while 20 are children in the worst flood-related tragedy since the heavy rains started.

The Kenya Red Cross has  estimate says  up to 500 families  have been  affected in the tragedy  that occurred on Wednesday night .
