BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,3RD MAY 2018-Deputy President William Ruto’s intention to meet former president Daniel Moi on Thursday failed to materialize after he waited for two hours to meet him only for Moi not to appear.Ruto had paid Moi a courtesy call.
After along wait Mr Ruto was told he couldn’t meet Moi as he had a doctor’s appointment.
The deputy president was accompanied by Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut and and Lawyer Stephen Kipkenda visited Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru.
A statement From Moi’s office confirmed the meeting took place.
“Former President Mzee Daniel arap Moi was visited today by Deputy President His Excellency William Ruto at his Kabarak home. Ruto who was accompanied by Energy CS Charles Keter, Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut and lawyer Stephen Kipkenda were welcomed and had lunch at Mzee’s Kabarak home,” read a statement in part.
“Unfortunately, this coincided with the time Mzee Moi was undergoing routine physical exercise with his doctors. Mzee Moi agreed to meet the visitors at convenient time another day in the very near future.”
Deputy President flew to Moi’s home at around noon, shortly after presiding over the official launch of the Rapid Results Initiative program at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi.
The move may not be seen as a good sign on the part of Ruto considering that Moi had met with ODM leader Raila Odinga recently.
Even as 2022 elections campaign starts taking shape it is a matter of wait and see the direction Rift valley politics takes with Ruto on one side and Baringo senator Gedeon Moi on the other.
Ruto has already declared his position that come 2022 he will go for presidency and he will need total support of rift valley voters ,however things could be complicated for him if Gideon Moi comes into the picture in anyway.Gideon could choose to rally behind another candidate who goes for presidency and spoil the vote for DP as per say.
