BY CORRESPONDENT,MURANGA,28TH APRIL 2018-Five people have died after they were buried alive in a landslide in Kiharu, Murang’a County.This follows heavy rains that have been pounding many parts of the country.
According to Kahuro Deputy County Commissioner David Kandie who confirmed the incident , the four are members of the same family.
Police have since managed to retrieve the bodies of the victims.
Elsewhere in Gitugi, several people and livestock are feared dead after yet another landslide.
The incident was confirmed by Kenya redcross on Saturday morning.
“Reports of landslides in Kahatia and Gitugi villages in Muranga. #RedCross response team en route to the scene,” the humanitarian agency said on Twitter.
Meanwhile, the military has been deployed to Kilifi to airlift hundreds of families marooned by floods following heavy rains there.
Several houses were submerged by the waters exposing villagers to risk as others clung to trees, leaving women, children and the elderly in extreme danger of being washed away.
The Kenyan military says it will continue to cooperate with other authorities in situations of emergency and disaster as part of its role.
