Caroline Karugu could be the next deputy governor in Nyeri after governor Kahiga nominated her

BY EURIDICE NZIOKA,NAIROBI,12TH APRIL 2018-Caroline Karugu could be the next Nyeri Deputy Governor.This is after governor Mutahi Kahiga nominated her.
The governor has since forwarded Karugu’s name to the Assembly for vetting and approval, should she succeed.
Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki read the message on her nomination at the start of sittings on Thursday.
Karugu is the chair of the Board Technical Committee of the Geothermal Development Company, following her appointment as a member, by President Uhuru Kenyatta, in 2015.
She has over 12 years’ experience in regional capital markets and financial services and has worked in organisations including Britam.
The nominee is currently the Managing Director of Jabali Microserve Limited.
On March 8 the Supreme Court directed that Governors lacking DGs to appoint them within 60 days.
Chief Justice David Maraga, DCJ Philomena Mwilu and justices Mohamed Ibrahim, Jackton Ojwang’, Njoki Ndung’u, Smokin Wanjala and Isaac Lenaola said the position cannot be filled through an election.
They held that Deputy Governor assumes office through nomination by the Governor and that the two offices are inseparable.
Nairobi is the other county without a DG as Polycarp Igathe resigned in January saying he had failed to gain the trust of governor Mike Sonko.
