BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,4TH APRIL  2018-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has  appeared  before appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Administration  to explain layer Miguna Miguna’s deportation. The CS has denied that the Kenyan Government deported besieged lawyer Miguna Miguna to Dubai on Wednesday last week.

The  CS says  Miguna had not entered Kenya since he was yet to be cleared at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

Matiang’i held  that the State only returned Miguna to his port of departure. “If he (Miguna) was deported I would have had to sign a deportation order.

“He was not in Kenya, he had not been cleared so he was not in our custody or jurisdiction . He was a passenger on transit who did not identify himself,” Dr. Matiang’i said on Tuesday.

The Interior CS further explained that the fiery lawyer was put aboard a Dubai-bound Emirates flight since that was the airline he had used to travel to Kenya.

“According to international convention he was removed from the air-side of the airport to the last port of call. Emirates carried him because that is the plane he used to Kenya,” Dr. Matiang’i maintained..

Matiangia apppeared before the committee along side Principal Secretaries Karanja Kibicho (Interior), Gordon Kihalangwa (Immigration) and Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet.

The move to deport  the vocal NRM self declared general  has been condemned by human rights organisations and religious leaders who say that any Kenyan citizen should be allowed to enter or leave the country on their own volition.

Miguna returned to Canada on Sunday night after being holed up at the Dubai international Airport for four days.

Matiangi has however promised that the government will do all it takes to assist Miguna if need be.
