BY NAMULONGO PETER,CORRESPONDENTS,30TH MARCH 2018-Christians all over the country of Friday gathered in various worship places to celebrate Good Friday which marks the capture persecution and eventual resurrection of Christ. A spot check by WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE in various parts of the country has established that Catholic faithful gathered in groups to take a walk famously known as the way of the cross carrying with them a cross which is a symbol of what Christ went through just before his eventual resurrection.
At the All saints cathedral Anglican archbishop Jackson Olesapit has reminded the Christians that this time of Easter was important in the life of any Christian and asked them to draw near to God.’’This is the moment to draw closer to God,let us ensure that such a time which is special we don’t remain the same again, it only comes once and we have an opportunity to welcome Christ in our lives’’. he said.
In Kiambu father Nelson Mburu of Raira church led the Christians in the way of the cross in the streets of the town urging for peace. Father Mburu asked Kenyans and Christians at large to use this time to preach peace and reconciliation .According to him the coming Christ is a symbol of peace and love having died for humanity.’’ it is time to make peace and the most important part of the period. Jesus is peace and love’’. he said.
He also urged Kenyans to keep peace and love one another at this important time.
During the way of the cross, catholic faithful make 14 stop over s which symbolizes the stations that Jesus went through while carrying the cross. Every stop over has significant meaning .
In Msongari in Nairobi cardinal John Njue led the faithful in the way of the cross. He reminded them to pray for peace in the country and also for leaders that they may all agree and commit to serve the country in unity.
