BY SAMSON MBII,NAIROBI,25TH MARCH 2018-The national sevens team Shujaa proofed powerful for Zimmbabwe on Sunday wining the 2018 Victoria Falls Sevens after claiming a 10-5 win Zimbabwe in the Cup final .
Levy Amunga and Brian Wahinya each scored a try in the first half to give Kenya a 10-0 lead before Rian O’Neill replied for the hosts at the restart to make it 10-5.
The scoreline stood at that as Kenyan defence stood tight to ensure Shujaa clinched the invitational tournament on their debut appearance.
Shujaa had advanced to the final after claiming a 17-10 win over neighbours Uganda earlier in the day with the Zambezi Cheetahs setting up the final when they outclassed Zambia A 19-0 in the other semi.
Experienced utility player Augustine Lugonzo and youngster Mark Kwemoi scored two quick tries for a 10-0 lead with the latter adding the extras.
Uganda however refused to go down without a fight as Kenya Harlequins winger Solomon Okia bagged two tries after the break to level the scores.
They were pegged back after Kenya was awarded a penalty for an infringement inside the 22-yard area.
With the buzzer going off, Shujaa showed good composure as Bush Mwale played in Samuel Muregi who went on to score at the corner in the dying minutes.
Shujaa had earlier run over Botswana 43-0 to book a spot in the semi finals.
Shujaa led 19-0 at the interval courtesy of tries by Impala Saracens flyhalf Mark Kwemoi and Kenya Harlequins forward Frank Wanyama.
Kenyan stars Menengai Cream Homeboyz Bush Mwale,Derrick Mayar,Augustine Lugonzo and Ian Minjire each scored in the second half to maintain their unbeaten run.
