Insecurity: renewed fighting in Samburu leave 10 people dead

BY CORRESPONDENT,SAMBURU,24TH MARCH 2018-A new wave of cattle rustling related fight has erupted in Samburu where Ten people have been killed by people  suspected to be  cattle rustlers at Lopurio area in the northern part of Samburu.

Our reporter in the region tells us that the deadly attack occurred at around 9am on Saturday when a group of herders grazing livestock were ambushed by heavily armed men.

The suspects are believed to be from a neighboring county. Lopurio is located about 30km away from Marti town along Maralal-Baragoi road.

Speaking in Maralal town recently, area MP Alois Lentoimaga and Governor Moses Lenolkulal said cattle rustlers are a big threat to security in Samburu North.

They condemned rampant insecurity in Samburu North urged police to use armored personnel courier vehicles during patrols to flush out bandits.

They also exprressed the need for the government to carry out disarmament axercise in the area since the attackers are heavily armed with AK 47 riffles which are illegal and have been used to carry out attacks as well as steal animals.
