Kenya joins the rest of the world in marking international women’s day as women empowerment remains a challenge

BY EURIDICE NZIOKA,NAIROBI,8TH MARCH 2018-Kenya has joined the rest of the world today in marking the international day of women 2018.The day was marked by various activities to celebrate women in several parts of the country.Spot check by WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE  in various parts of the country have established that most of the activities held as part of the day has to do with drawing the country’s political leadership attention towards recognizing women.
In Nairobi women have been urged to follow examples of women who have made  name for themselves and achieved outstanding records in various spheres of live.
President of the Public Service Governance Esther Waringa who presided over  an event as part of the day’s celebration  has urged women to emulate icons such as Wangari Maathai and endeavor to leave a mark in opportunities they get to lead.

She further called upon women  be peace makers in their families in order  to reduce the ever rising cases of gender and families’ violence.
In his message to mark the international day of women ,Deputy president  William Ruto  says the government will continue to put in necessary measures  to ensure gender equality  as well as formulating laws that fight gender violence
This year’s  theme is Press for Progress to prompt for better leadership in the future.
