BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,2ND MARCH 2018-Health CS Sicily Kariuki  has with immediate effect sent on compulsory leave Kenyatta National Hospital CEO Lily Koros after doctors at the facility performed  brain surgery on a wrong patient.

Health CS Sicily Kariuki who announced the decision   on Friday  says  the move against Koros and an officer in charge of clinical affairs   will enable the board of management to carry out comprehensive investigation  on the incident and others including child theft syndicate that has rocked the institution the recent past.

”I have appointed Dr Mutie and  Okechi to take charge and also to work with the board in speeding up investigations.The report is to be handed in the next one week, i direct that the board do meet tomorrow”.she said.

CS Kariuki’s announcement came just hours after KNH suspended the admission rights of the Neurosurgery Registrar and issued him with a show-cause letter.

Koros said on Thursday that they took action following the incident in line with the hospital’s procedures.

Doctors have defended their KNH colleague who conducted the said operation.

They claim that  the nurses who prepared the patient for surgery are the ones at fault for wrongly labelling the two patients.

The CS who visted Kenyatta National hopsital to check on the patient said the two patient are in stable condition with one who was supposed to have been operated on still not  haven’t been operated on but she says he was doing well and is due for discharge on Monday.The CS also confirmed that  the one who was wrongly operated on was also recuperating well.
