Over 50 police officer left homeless as fire burns structures at central police station in Nairobi.

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,23RD FEB 2018-Close to 44 houses mostly used by the police officers in Nairobi have been reduced to ashes after a huge fire erupted on Friday morning at the central police station in Nairobi.The fire is said to have been caused by gas cylinder explosion in one of the houses after an electric fault.

Firefighters from the Nairobi county government  battled the inferno  which begun around 9a successfully extinguishing it after several hours.

Police cordoned off University Way to allow the Nairobi City County fire department to put out the fire, causing a huge traffic snarl-up.

A police officer who spoke to WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE on the condition of anonymity said the houses that were burnt mainly houses police officers who are single and therefore must stay together at least every room been used by two police officers.”Most of those affected are the police officers who don’t have their families here with them,we hope help will come quickly so as we can have the house reconstructed”.he said.

No casualties have been reported from the incident.
