Nakumatt woes continues as Galleria mall owners now seeks to evict the retailer over rent arrears

BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,20TH FEB 2018-The woes pitting the once giant retail store Nakumatt continues after Galleria Shopping Mall owners  who have rented a space to Nakumatt   seeks the removal of the retailer  after accumulation of rent arrears  amount to  Sh107 million.

Parkside Developments Limited has moved to court seeking to take over the space currently occupied by the retailer.

“That this honourable court hereby grants leave to the interested creditor to exercise its right of forfeiture and re-enter its premises known as unit 0.1 situated on the ground floor of the Galleria Mall,” the firm has requested.

The firm also claims that the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has directed its remaining tenants to pay rent directly to the authority due to unpaid Sh86 million in taxes.

In January Nakumatt holdings  a company that owns Nakumatt chains of stores was  allowed by the court to appoint an administrator in a bid to stop liquidation.
