BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,12TH FEB 2018-Tourism cabinet secretary Najib Balala has challenged the players in the sector to innovate in line with global trends in order to attract more tourists as well as create more employment and income opportunities.
Balala says the industry should prioritize fixing and refreshing the tourism product as well as expand into new source markets to attract new and retain existing tourists.
The tourism industry recorded a double-digit increase in earnings of 20.3% in 2017 to 119 billion shillings.
This is the momentum that players in the tourism industry is keen to maintain by boosting arrivals leveraging on the National Tourism Blueprint 2030/
The master plan targets 4 million in tourist arrivals annually and increasing direct jobs in the tourism industry to 561,800 by the year 2030.
The industry plans to revamp and transform into new products the safari, beach and marine, city tourism, nature, culture and heritage as well as business tourism to offer more value to visitors coming into the country.
