Harambee stars record improved performance in the latest FIFA Rankings

BY SAMSON MBII,18TH JAN 2018-The national  soccer team, Harambee Stars has moved a place up in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday 18 January despite having played no FIFA recognized games in the month of December 2017.

Stars are now ranked 105 globally with neighbors Tanzania also moving a place up to position 146. Uganda, currently participating in the 2018 African Nations Championships (CHAN) in Morocco are still the best team in the CECAFA region after climbing two places up to position 73 in the world map.


Zdravko Logarusic’s Sudan, who are also taking part in the CHAN competition are the biggest climbers in the CECAFA region after rising 12 places up to position 124 with neighbors Ethiopia also making a positive move, climbing six places to position 137.

Rwanda have dropped three places down to 116th in the global ranking while Burundi have dropped one position to 143rd.


In the CAF region, the continent’s top spot is taken by Senegal who are placed 23rd globally with Tunisia following closely at position 27.  Egypt, DR Congo, Morocco placed at positions 31, 39 and 40 respectively complete the top five list for Africa.

Germany still occupies top spot  globally with Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium respectively occupying the top five.
