Bondeni residents in Nakuru count huge loses as fire burns down businesses

BY CORRESPONDENT,NAKURU,18TH JAN 2018-Residents of Bondeni estate in Nakuru county are counting losses amounting to millions of shillings after fire destroyed their businesses on Wednesday night.

According to Jackiline Mwangi who is a resident of the area and who also lost her business ,the fierce fire begun shortly after 9pm and spread quickly consuming property  of unknown value.

She says 7 houses mainly used by business men and women went up in flames as they watched.”Hii moto ilitokea baada ya watu kufunga kazi na wote walikuwa wameenda manyumbani ,ni wachache sana walikuwa wamebaki wakifunga kazi zao” she said.(The inferno begun after all business owners around had closed their businesses for the day,only a few of us had remained behind as we also closed) Miss Mwangi lost her saloon business and all the work equipment.

Despite efforts from good Samaritan and fire fighting engines from the county government of Bakuru to try and extinguish the inferno,nothing was  rescued.

The cause of the inferno is not known but residents say it could have been started by an electric fault.
