Battle for Kitui west parliamentary seat takes shape as former MP the late Francis Nyenze’s wife joins race

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,15TH JAN 2018-Former Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze’s widow Edith Veth Nyenze has officially launched her bid to succeed her late husband as the area legislator.

Edith has called on the constituents to support her during the Wiper Party primaries to be held Tuesday to allow her finish her husband’s development agenda.

Edith, a retired high school principal is banking on her experience having been the wife of a man who served as the area MP for long.

Whoever emerges victorious in the nominations will carry the Wiper Party flag against eight other candidates for the by-election slotted for March 26th this year.

Kitui senator Enock Wambua who is Edith’s younger brother has thrown his weight behind her as he urged her competitors to ensure free and fair nominations.

Race takes shape

This comes just a day after Nairobi businessman and former cabinet minister Nyiva Mwendwa’s son, Maluki Mwendwa, officially launched his political bid for the seat  on Sunday January 14.

Maluki’s quest for the seat got fresh impetus when he was endorsed by eight Kitui MCAs. Led by the MCA for Matinyani, Sylvester Kitheka, the ward representatives vouched for Kitili as the best candidate to succeed the late area MP Francis Nyenze.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Francis Nyenze in December last year. Maluki is battling for the Wiper ticket with the late Nyenze’s widow Edith Vethi among others.

The by-election is scheduled for  26th of March  2018.
