One dies of Cholera in Tharaka Nithi,more than 100 others hospitalized

BY CORRESPONDENT,THARAKA NITHI,1ST JAN,2018-Chorela pandemic has been reported in Tharaka Nithi county with One person having died so far while over 100 others are receiving treatment at various hospitals across the county .The affected have had acute diarrhoea which points be likelihood of a cholera outbreak.
According to Gichuai Nthuraka who is Tharaka-Nithi County Health Executive confirming the incident said the patients have symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting.
Dr Nthuraku said one person was confirmed dead on arrival at Magutuni Sub-County Hospital.
Confirmation of Cholera outbreak
He further added that five others admitted to various hospitals have been confirmed to be suffering from cholera adding that they had taken more specimens to a laboratory in Nairobi for further screening.
“Patients are showing symptoms of cholera and we are doing our best to contain it,” said Dr Gichua.
Residents of Magutuni, Kamonka, Chuka and Mutino have been sensitized on how to prevent the spread according to Dr Gichua since those are the area where the outbreak reported reported.
Among the measures that need to be undertaken by locals are exclusively use of toilets and latrines and drink boiled water to curb the spread .
“We are discouraging public gatherings especially during this Christmas and New Year festive season,” he said.
