BY CORRESPONDENT,IJARA,30TH DEC 2017-Suspected Al Shabaab militia have attacked Ijara police station in Garrissa county setting it a blaze before escaping with a police vehicle land cruiser.The early morning Saturday incident also saw attackers destroy the main communication equipment used in the town .
According to a police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity no casualty was reported in the attack that occurred at 2 am.
“They destroyed property but luckily there is no casualty, but we suspect some of them must have escaped with injuries after a shootout with police,” another officer said.
The attack ocuurs just a day after another attack in Lamu suspected to have been carried by the dreaded AL Shabaab led to deaths of two police officers.
Heavy security deployments have been deployed to hunt the terrorists thought to have escaped to Boni forest or to the neighbouring Somalia.
“We have officers tracking them with the help of the military because we need to get the police vehicle back,” the officer speaking on condition of anonymity said.
