BY CORRESPONDENT,23RD DEC 2017-Two separate accidents that occurred early Saturday on Mombasa Road have left eight people dead while several others injured.
In the mid morning carnage Seven died on the spot after a hearse ferrying mourners towards Mombasa collided with a truck at Kalimbini area near Sultan Hamud township .
Police have confirmed the incident saying the truck was overtaking another vehicle when it hit the hearse.This is according to Mukaa police chief Zachariah Bitok .
Those who were injured have been rushed to various hospitals in Makueni and Machakos counties while the bodies were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile a man died on the spot while five others were injured after a lorry collided with a pick-up at Kiunduani market in a second accident also on the same highway.
The injured were rushed to Makindu Sub County Hospital.Two have have been transferred to Nairobi for further treatment after they sustained serious injuries.
This latest incident comes after over 60 people perished in the last two weeks through tragic road accidents on various roads across the country.
The National transport and safety Authority has so far moved in two put up measures aimed at reducing the incidences.NTSA has its officials camping on major highways where they are monitoring among others speed and behaviors of drivers as Christmas seasons officially sets in.
