Five Children killed in Mandera after an explosive device they were playing with exploded

BY CORRESPONDENT,MANDERA,22ND DEC 2017-Five children have been killed  when an explosive device they were playing with exploded in Banisa, Mandera County.Sources told WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE that the children age between 12 and 15 years had been playing with the device since Wednesday when they picked it up on grazing grounds on their way to school.

Banisa Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Mathias Chisambo said the schoolchildren were playing with a grenade they had found in a grazing field.

“They picked up the device on Wednesday and played with it until it exploded on Thursday evening,” Mr Chisambo said.

It is not clear when the device was left at the venue.In the recent past such cases  have been reported in the county and other neighboring counties .

The devices are believed to have been left there during the colonial time by the British army.
