According to Busia’s Health CEC, Maurice Siminyu, residents are afraid of testing HIV/Aids positive. Very soon, blood banks will run dry and the county will have a severe shortage,” he said
Busia is ranked number 4 in Kenyan counties with the highest rate of new HIV infections because people fear taking the tests.
Recent media reports suggest that the county has one of highest rates of HIV infections in he country with estimated 45000 people living with the virus.
Men in the county are also believed to shy away from measures to prevent the risk of infection due to cultural beliefs.
Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has been reported affirming the dare situation of infection in the county and promisng to up the fight against HIV/Aids in the county .
