BY SAMSON MBII,CORRESPONDENT,15TH DEC 2017-Zanzibar has proofed powerful for Uganda Cranes beating them 2-1 in the second CECAFA cup semi final staged at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu on December 15, 2017.This means that Zanzibar will meet Kenya’s Harambee stars in the final on Sunday.
Zanzibar got an early corner but unfortunately went wide after it was taken poory by Adeyum Ahmed in the 13th minute. A minute earlier Ugandans had a fine chance to break the deadlock when Zanzibar defenders committed a foul on the edge of the box, but Muzamiru Mutyaba sent it over the bar for a goal kick.
Makame Hassan scored for the Islanders in the 25th minute after a sumptuous corner delivery from Yahya Abass. Uganda made a change in the 28th minuet by bringing in Joseph Nsubuga for Shafiq Bakaki. At half hour mark, the Cranes struck to bring things on parity after Nsibambi struck the ball into the net when Allan Kyambade made a wonderful delivery into the box.
Matters were compounded for Uganda when the first half entrant Nsubuga was shown a red card and Zanzibar awarded a penalty after the former committed an offence in the area. Adeyum rose to take the spot kick and buried it inside the net for the second goal for the visitors just before hour mark.
After coming in in the 54th minute, former AFC Leopards midfielder Allan Katterega tried his lack to rescue matters for the sinking cranes in the 74th minute but his long range went off and wide.
On Thursday Harambee stars booked the final slot after overpowering Burundi 1-0 in the first semi final played at the same venue.The lone goal was scored by Whyvonne Izuza.
