President Uhuru Kenyatta presides over 54th Jamhuri day ,warns that nobody will be allowed to undermine the constitution

BY JOHN WERU/KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,12TH DEC 2017-President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday led the nation in marking 54th Jamhuri day celebrations where he has urged  the opposition leaders to join him in serving Kenyans.The president  says time for politics is over  and it was time  to  move forward as one.

The president also sounding a warning to those who intend to disrespect the constitution.”the constitution is supreme  and anyone trying to undermine the constitution will not be allowed to get always with it”.he said.

The president seemed to be responding to the opposition the National Super Alliance NASA who have since postponed the swearing in of their leader Raila Odinga as people’s president.Odinga was to be sworn in today Tuesday  December 12 on the same day Kenya was marking the Jamuhuri celebrations bust the event was pushed forward to undisclosed date due to several factors.

In his Jamhuri day speech the head of state was categorical that he will focus mainly on developing the country in the next five years with economic stability being his main agenda.

The president has also promised to reach out to his competitors especially the opposition in a move aimed at uniting and forging a common bond.

”Natoa hakikisho langu kwamba niko tayari kufanya kazi na viongozi wote,wakenya wote kuhakikisha kwamba tuna taiafa la kujivunia”.he said .loosely translating to  ( I pledge my committement to reaching out to all leaders and Kenyans  to ensure that we have a nation that all will be proud of.)

The president has also promised to build a peaceful nation saying that it is only through lasting peace that economic stability will be achieved.

Uhuru  further thanked the youth of the country for their determination and handwork that has seen the country realize  economic growth and assuring them of his government’s support .’.Am encouraged by a large number of our youth who work hard for themselves and for their families.my administration is centered on you” he added.

The president further said that his administration will in the next five years concentrate on value addition in the agricultural sector saying that the future of the sector is in value addition.

He added that going forward there will be not raw coffee sold outside the country but rather it must undergo processing to ensure that the country is the first  beneficiary.

The president has also sounded a warning to all dealing with counterfeit products saying that they had greatly affected the country’s economy negatively.President Kenyatta says the government will not tolerate counterfeits . ”I direct KRA & Kenya Anti-counterfeit Authority to destroy on site counterfeits upon seizure & officers who are involved to be dismissed & prosecuted” he said.

Kenyatta also promised that his government will  support farmers to grow cotton and buy the products because cotton factory  Rivertex had been revived .

Warning to Drivers

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned the drivers against careless driving.Addressing the nation during the Jamuhuri day celebration ,the head of state expressed his disappointment that so far close to 50 lives had been lost within a period of two days alone due to accidents.”The drivers of the public transport sector vehicles should be more  careful especially at this festive period to avoid more loss of lives”.he said.The president has instructed the police to deal firmly with all driver flouting traffic regulations.” I instruct the police to deal firmly with all drivers flouting traffic rules” he added.
