BY SAMSON MBII,9TH DEC 2017-Rwanda has managed to register its first  win in this year’s CECAFA tournament after beating Tanzania 2-1. on Saturday. Rwanda’s Wasps registered the win after overpowering  Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars   at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos .The move has  dimmed Tanzania’s hope of advancing to the semi finals.

Mico Justin and Abbedy Birahimire scored  for Rwanda, while Daniel Reuben Lyanga netted the consolation for Kilimanjaro Star.

Daniel Reuben Lyanga’s made two attempts in succession, in the seventh and in the ninth minutes with Rwanda’s goalkeeper Nzarora Marcel swiftly denying him on both occasions.

The match  also  witnessed pockets of disappointments with Ibrahim Migomba losing  a golden opportunity   shooting off target with only Salum Manula to beat between the posts.

Things seemed to  balance play wise   until the 19th minute, when Mico Justin capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot in past a diving Manula for the opener.

A determined Kilimanjaro Stars, under the tutelage of Ammy Conrad Ninje, restored parity when Lyanga rose above Thierry Manzi and Soter Kayumba to head in a volley from the right channel.

Hakizimana Muhadjiri could have doubled Rwanda’s advantage six minutes to the break, but lost his footing as he prepared to pull the trigger.

The second stanza was an end-to-end affair with both sides creating several  chances but failing to score.

After the  win, Rwanda will wait for the late evening clash between Kenya versus Zanzibar, and later Libya against the islanders, to know if they can advance for the semi finals on goal difference.
