BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,5TH DEC 2017-It is a case of sweet freedom for Four Kenyans jailed for life in South Sudan as they return home on Wednesday upon their release from prison.The four had been accused for defrauding the government of the youngest nation on the continent.
The release of the four Mr Ravi Ramesh, Mr Boniface Muriuki , Mr Anthony Keya and Antoney Mwadime were sentenced to life imprisonment over alleged embezzlement of government funds.
They will be received by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Monica Juma upon their release who is currently in South Sudan
The decision to set them free came after President Salva Kiir Mayadit held talks with his Kenyans counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta close to two weeks ago.
The accused were serving in different capacities as business men while others were officials in the South Sudan government .John Agou was a business man and also a senior security officer in President Kiir’s office and his wife Anyeth Chat Bol.
The two founded the business Click Technologies, which supplied electronics to the Juba government and employed the four Kenyans.
Mr Agou, the court found, conspired with his employees to swindle the Office of the President and other ministries, by receiving payments for phantom deliveries.
Family members of the accused four had on several occasions urged the government and the United Nations Human Rights Council to intervene and have them freed.
