BY CORRESPONDENT,KIRINYAGA,23RD NOV 2017– Farmers growing rice in Mwea Kirinyaga county can expect to harvest double the produce once the construction of Thiba Dam is complete.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday November 23 presided over the ground breaking ceremony of the construction of the dam.
The dam will enable rice farmers to double their acreage under irrigation thus improving the crop production within the area.It will also increase the number of households with access to clean water.
Accompanied by Kirinyaga county government governor Ann Waiguru,Deputy president Willaim Ruto ,Water cabinet secretary Eugine Wamalwa among other government officials,president Kenyatta reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting rice farmers in the region.The president was also categorical that politicking time was over and it was time to concentrate on the nation building. The project will cost kshs 19 billion.
