BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,23RD NOV 2017-The government has warned all Counties that have so far passed the People’s Assembly Motion will pay surcharges will bear the cost of sittings that passed such motions.
Addressing the press on Thursday November 23rd government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe said Kiraithe noted that the counties contravened the law as public money meant for development was used wrongly.
“MCAs in some counties are wasting public resources, debating and passing motions not supported by the constitution,” he told a press conference on Thursday.
“You can sit anywhere with your friends and declare yourself the Pope as long as you’re not using public resources.”
So far several County assemblies have passed the motion and they include Makueni ,Busia, Siaya, Kakamega, Vihiga, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Kilifi .
.The assembly is part of NASA’s multi-pronged strategy to end President Uhuru Kenyatta rule.
Coalition leader Raila Odinga withdrew from the repeat October 26 election and has resorted to running a national resistance movement.
High court in Kitui has since issued orders restraining counties from constituting a special college for the appointment of election members, delegations and observers of the People’s Assembly.
It also blocked any participation in the People’s Assembly and implementation of the motions. The court said the orders will remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the case on January 25 next year.
The spokesperson said preparations for the Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing-in will be completed at the weekend.
“All Kenyans are invited to the ceremony at Kasarani stadium,” he said.
Opposition leaders are said to be crafting a plan to inaugurate Raila on that day before Uhuru’s ceremony takes place.
Odinga is also scheduled to address the Nation on the way forward on Saturday November 25.
