BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,17TH NOV 2017-The number of people who died following clashes between police and NASA Supporters on Friday November 17 has risen to five.
In a statement National Police service spokesperson George Kinoti,. police have confirmed that five people died on Friday after they were stoned to death by enraged crowds for allegedly looting during chaos that marred parts of Nairobi County for the better part of the day.
Thousands of NASA supporters thronged Jomo Kenyatta international airport on Friday morning to welcome back their Leader Raila Odinga who jetted back from a ten days oversees trip.
Things started becoming worse when police prevented NASA supporters from accessing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive the opposition boss.
While they did manage to keep them off, once Raila left the airport grounds, hundreds of his supporters were waiting outside and matched alongside his convoy for five hours while braving teargas and water cannons.
Kinoti also added that the police were aware that several innocent Kenyans had their properties looted , vandalized or vehicles destroyed by mobs that accompanied the NASA leaders .The affected people have also been urged to report the matter to the police.
According to the statements the deaths occurred before police arrived at the various scenes.
NASA STATEMENT
However the National super Alliance NASA contradicts the police statement .According to sources within NASA who talked to WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE their supporters were killed after they were shot by police in different areas within the city.”Some of our people were shot in broad day light by police donning civilian clothes”.said the source that sought anonymity.
