BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,31ST OCT 2017- Catholic Bishop of the diocese of Eldoret the late Cornelius Korir will be burried on Saturday, November 11 at the Sacret Heart Cathedral in Eldoret.The burrial date had been set for Monday 6th of November but WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE has since lerned that the burial committee had to reschedule it in oder to cater for several government officials who would wish to attend .Korir died, 67, suddenly on Monday morning at his house in Eldoret.
The burial plans are being chaired by Bishop Phillip Anyollo.A postmortem will be carried out the body at the Moi the referral hospital to establish the cause of death.
“As a government, we recognize Bishop Korir as a hero and true patriot. We will team up with the church to give him the burial he deserves,” Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan said.
President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto, opposition leaders, diplomats and international guests are expected to attend the burial.
Anyollo said the church would give the Bishop a deserving send off as a hero because of the role he played in peace and reconciliation.
Bishop Korir was born in 1950 at Segutiet, Kericho Diocese in the former Bomet District.
He was ordained Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret on June 2, 1990.
This was when the diocese, which then included Kitale, had 50 parishes.
Anyollo said Korir fought for peace and dialogue and that it will be a great honour to Korir if political leaders dialogue to keep the country peaceful and united.
“Let our political leaders know that we are all in the hands of God our creator. They need not work against the will of God”, said Anyollo who is also the bishop of Homa Bay and Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The body of bishop Korir is lying at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital farewell home.
