BY CORRESPONDENT,SIAYA,21ST OCT 2017-The central organization of Trade union COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli wants IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati to postpone the repeat presidential poll slated for October 26 in order to effectively prepare for the same.
“Chebukati is not acting bold enough in his decision as a Luhya. He need to stand up and ask for more time, even if it’s three months to adequately prepare for the repeat election,” Atwoli said on Saturday.
Speaking in Bondo during the funeral of father to Ida Odinga’s father on Saturday, He said Jubilee cannot defeat NASA in a free and fair contest and the two parties need to dialogue on the parameters for a free and fair election.
“There must be dialogue for each side to know who are the handlers of elections and what are the rules of the game,” the trade union boss added.
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta will not lose his manhood be accepting to talk to Raila Odinga.
Atwoli added that he does not belong to either party and is only giving his opinion on the way forward.
He said he is among individuals who can speak without fear or favour in order to move the country forward.
He maintained that the election should be postponed until all sides reach a middle ground to guarantee a violence-free exercise.
Chebukati has said the commission cannot guarantee a credible election on Thursday.
The Opposition intends to hold countrywide demonstrations on election day saying the electoral agency is yet to make sufficient reforms for the election.
