Government declares Oct 26 a public holiday in anticipation of poll

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,19TH OCT 2017-Acting interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has gazetted  Thursday next week as a public holiday to enable Kenyans participate in the repeat Presidential election.

Through a gazette notice, Matiangi said Kenyans should undertake the exercise peacefully.

The declaration comes amid calls for dialogue between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to alleviate the political tension in the country.

NASA leaders have called upon their supporters across the country to keep off the poling stations during the voting day.The coalition has also announced that it will hold  a countrywide demonstrations to ensure the no elections takes place.
