BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,18TH OCT 2017-Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has admitted that says under the current conditions and with a divided commission, he is not sure whether presidential poll slated for Thursday next week will be credible .
The IEBC chair who was addressing the press on Wedneday at the Bomas of Kenya however noted that he would preside over the poll and vowed not to resign as Commissioner Roselyn Akombe did on Wednesday morning.
“I know there are elements who would love nothing more than to hear me announce my resignation at this point,” the besieged chairman told journalists at the Bomas of Kenya.
“ In reality, that will be the easier thing to do, but we all have to put Kenya first and that is why I am determined to make this commission work.
in his speech full of anticipation reaffirmed that despite the current ongoing in the country’s political arena he can still deliver.
The chairman eventhough appeared to be blaming a number of commissioners at IEBC whom he says had taken captive his efforts in ensuring there was smooth working environment.”Many times my motions have been opposed by majority of commissioners” .he said.
Chebukati who was steady but firm said he will convene a meeting to provide platform for the presidential candidates to iron out their differences for the sake of the country.He has also warned against intimidating his staff urging political players to let him do his job.
