BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,18TH OCT 2017-IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe has resigned just a week to the repeat presidential elections.
In a statement she sent from the US Dr Akombe mentions several pertinent issues that led to her decision one of them being dubious manner in which the preparations for the upcoming elections are being undertaken.
She says the repeat election as planned cannot meet the basic expectations of a credible election.
“The commission in its current state can surely not guarantee a credible election on October 26. I do no want to be party to such a mockery to electoral integrity,” she said.
She also says she was fearing for her life considering several threats to her life she has received.Speaking from the US where she has taken refuge , Dr Akombe said IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati is under siege
In her statement she said it is unacceptable for any party to disrupt, attack IEBC staff; says acts must be condemned and action taken against perpetrators.
