BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,17TH OCT 2017-Police were on Tuesday expected to forcefully gain entry into the house of Businessman Jimi Wanjigi in Nairobi’s Muthaiga suburbs after more officers arrived at the home early in the morning armed with various equipment.
Those who were seen coming in were carrying among other items sledge hammers and heavy metal cutters which they intend to use in breaking into locked rooms.
This follows claims that the businessman had locked himself into the house despite pleas from police who have been camping at the home since Monday for him to come out for interrogations.
The police wants to carry out a search at the home after the discovery of weapons at a villa he is said to own in Malindi on Monday morning where four rifles were seized and workers arrested.Ninety three bullets were also found.
NASA leaders have condemned the raid and are filing a case Tuesday morning against it, with reports indicating they are also seeking anticipatory bail for the tycoon who has been oiling Opposition campaigns.
The whereabouts of Wanjigi remain unknown since Monday.
Though politicians and family members said they don’t know his whereabouts, police believe Wanjigi is hiding within the premises.
According to Siaya Senator James Orengo, the raid is illegal since allegedly police don’t have a search warrant, but police acquired one on Wednesday morning.
Orengo says the businessman is being victimized for his link’s with NASA leader Raila Odinga.
