One killed in anti-IEBC demos in Kisumu

BY KORIR JUMA/CORRESPONDENT,KISUMU,16TH OCT 2017-One person was shot dead by the police in  anti-IEBC  protests in Kisumu on Monday.According to eye witnesses who spoke to WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE and who did not want to be named  the victim  young man was buying ice cream   near Kondole police station when a police officer shot him art close range from the back killing him on the spot. ”Alikuwa akinunua ice cream karibu na kituo cha polisi cha kondele wakati alipigwa risasi na polisi kutoka nyuma”said the witness.

It was not  clear why he was shot since he was taking part in peaceful demonstrations.The incident comes just hours after two human right groups  Amnesty International  and Human Rights Watch released  a report   showing  that At least 33 people  were killed by police in Nairobi during demonstrations that followed August 8 presidential poll results.

The report reveals as many as 50 people, mainly in perceived opposition strongholds in the capital, could have lost their lives during the protests against President Kenyatta’s win

The 37-page report, titled Kill Those Criminals’: Security Forces’ Violations in Kenya’s August 2017 Elections, details excessive use of force by police and other security agents against protesters and residents.

Police were directly implicated in the deaths of at least 33 people during their operations in Mathare, Kibera, Babadogo, Dandora, Korogocho, Kariobangi, and Kawangware between August 9 and 13.
