BY NAMULONGO PETER/CORRESPONDENTS,16TH OCT 2017-The national super Alliance NASA supporters on Monday resumed their demonstrations pushing for reforms at the independent Electoral and boundaries commission IEBC.Spot check by WWW.UPESINEWS.CO.KE in various parts of the country revealed that police were on high alert in various towns to keep the demonstrators away from the central business districts of several cities.
In Mombasa NASA leaders among them Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir , Mombasa deputy governor William Kingi and County ODM chairman Mohammed Hatimi led demonstrators to the City center while police manned many areas within the CBD.
In Kisumu however things were different because as early as 8am hundreds of demonstrators were already within the CBD matching to the IEBC offices.
Kisumu governor Professor Anyang Nyong who led the protests urged demonstrators to ensure that they maintain peace and order even as police kept watch.
Things were a bit different in Nairobi with most parts of the city remaining peaceful with police standing guard in different areas along streets and around business establishment.
NASA have insisted that its anti-IEBC demos will go on even as acting interior CS Fred Matiangi banned them from the CBDs of three major cities of Nairobi,Kisumu and Mombasa.Two people lost their lives in Migori last week when demonstrators took to the street just a day after Matiang’i announcement.
