Parliament discuss changes on elections laws as NASA members of parliament stay away

BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,10TH OCT 2017-The National assembly on Tuesday 10TH Oct held a session to discuss the importance and impacts of proposed changes to the electoral laws.

While tabling the report prepared after receiving public opinion on the same, the chair of the adoptive committee on the amendments William Cheptumo has asked  parliament to approve the changes as soon as possible so as to avoid hitches such as those witnessed during the August 8 elections which were nullified.

Cheptumo says the current parliament will be held responsible for election related blunders in future if it does not cease the moment to bring to pass these changes.”Mr speaker time has come for this house to stand and be counted on this subject,i get worried when some people oppose such good changes”.he said.

All  except Bobasi member of parliament Innocent Obiri Momanyi differed  with the rest saying it was not proper for  parliament  as it is currently constituted to pass laws that will govern both members of the two political divide including NASA who are not in the house to participate in the passing the same laws.

According to him it was important that parliament suspends such a sitting until that time when both  members shall be present.NASA has opposed the changes.
