BY JOHN WERU,NAIROBI,9TH OCT 2017-The kenya national commission on human right says 37 deaths were recorded in the period just before the August 8 elections.
Of the total deaths 35 were as a result of use of excess force by the police on civilians. According to the report titled mirage at dusk politicians used children in their campaigns ahead of August election.The chairperson of the commission Kagwiria Mbogori speaking during the launch of the report on Monday says much needs to be done by the police in bringing to book perpetrators of these human right violations.
The commission also wants the inspector of police Joseph Boinet to ensure that report of the independent police oversight Authority IPOA on all police human rights violations be prosecuted.
The commission has also appealed to the Electoral commission to ensure that it conducts enogh civic education on voting before the repeat polls slated for October 26.
