BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,5TH OCT 2017-Drama ensued at a joint parliamentary   Select Committee on election laws amendments   sitting in Nairobi Thursday 4th Oct ,after  IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati  was kicked out by  members who  demanded that he  goes back and comes with the rest of the Commissioners.

He is said to have been sent back  after MPS said they were  not sure he was there for IEBC or as an individual.

They say that the document he presented  was  only signed by Chebukati creating doubt on whether the other commissioners have endorsed it.

IEBC chairman  was asked to leave and come back with the other commissioners at 7pm same day.The electoral chair has in the recent days made his position clear that he do not personally endorse the  changes on the electoral laws been spearheaded by the Jubilee members of parliament.

The chair is particular concerned by a section of the amendments in the same law that seeks to do away with the requirement that the chair of the commission  must be a lawyer.

The same also seeks to water down the fact that the current laws without changes gives only the chair  the mandate to declare winner of presidential elections. However this is likely to change as the proposed amendments seeks to give another officer rather than the chair at the commission the same responsibility to declare winner.
