Amendments to the electoral laws cause outcry in parliament

BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,28TH SEPT 2017-Members of parliament allied to the National Super Alliance NASA   have opposed the move by their Jubilee counterparts to reduce time allocated for debating  changes to the laws from 14 days to 1 day .This is after the members of parliament  allied to Jubilee  passed the motion to reduce the period. The two weeks time is normally set aside to be used in involving  members of the public in discussing and giving their opinion on any changes to be effected in any law.But according to NASA members of parliament Jubilee MPS wants to sue their numbers in the house to pass bad laws that will favor them.

Addressing the press outside parliament on Thursday Morning NASA MPs led by Rauaraka MP TJ Kajwang,Kimilili’s Christopher Wamalwa and Emuhaya’s Omboko Milemba have vowed to ensure that Jubilee will not use its tyranny of numbers in the house to pass retrogressive laws.

This happens even as parliament begins  deliberating on how to amend the elections laws. The MPs wants to amend  article 44 subsection a that will ensure elections are conducted manually as opposed to the current situation where it is electronic.

According to Ruaraka Member of parliament TJ Kajwnag  Jubilee wants to pass the changes on time used to discuss changes to the laws so as they can pass inappropriate amendments to the elections laws in hurry without time to debate  before the presidential poll slated for the 26th of October so as it will favor them. The Mps says they will not allow Jubilee to succeed in their scheme. ”we call upon Kenyans not to allow Jubilee to have its way”.said Kajwang.

Changes to the electoral laws will allow among others reverting to manual way of voting as well as transmission of results.
