BY SAMSON MBII,NAIROBI,23RD SEPT 2017-Confederations of African football has made true it’s threats to strip Kenya of the rights to host the CHAN tournament early next year.
In a meeting held at the Ghana capital Accra on Saturday where Kenya was represented by Football Kenya federations FKF chair Nick Mwendwa among other officials,CAF made it clear that it could not risk giving Kenya the chance to host the event which is a global tournament as the country was behind in terms of preparations.According to the organization most work was still much behind especially on track with most of the country’s pitches still in bad shape.Even as Mwendwa embarked on the journey to Accra which was avoided by sports CS Hassan Wario, many stakeholders had expressed lack of confidence with kenya getting the go ahead to host the event.
This is after most rehabilitation of stadiums had begun late and all signs were pointing to the likelihood of Kenya been locked out.
The move now means Kenya should start planing for the opportunity in the year 2020 to see whether it will meet the requirements. Next years rights could go to south Africa which has always been seen as an alternative going by the available infrastructure it has.
