BY KORIR JUMA,NAIROBI,14TH SEPT 2017-The national super Alliance NASA has downplayed claims by Independent Electoral and boundaries Commission IEBC that it turned down an invitation to the meeting with the commission.Addressing the press on Thursday at the Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi,NASA principal Musalia Mudavadi says IEBC the coalition has not received any invitation from IEBC calling them for a meeting.
Earlier on Thursday IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati had told journalists that they had written to NASA calling them for a meeting but they never turned up ,claims that NASA has disputed.
Mudavadi who was accompanied by other NASA principals Raila Odinga,and Kalonzo Musyoka,says as NASA they will not engage in any boardroom meetings with IEBC but will meet with the commission in the open in the presence of other players.”we have made it clear that there will be no more boardroom meetings with IEBC,we can only meet in the presence of other stakeholders”.he said.
He has further added that the coalition had written to the electoral commission outlining conditions that needs to be met before a fresh election is held.He says some of their demands which IEBC Must meet before an election is gazette all poling stations in the 290 constituencies,make plans for media to cover the entire process including results transmission, should ensure that it respects what the supreme court ordered concerning fresh presidential elections. Mudavadi who has also revealed the opposition will in due time buy space in the local dailies to publish their demands.
Musalia has accused the commission of ignoring the supreme court directive that ordered for a fresh election and instead behaving as if nothing happened in the first place.He has insisted that NASA will not participate in any election unless all their demands are met.
He says they will only participate in an election which meets international standards saying their demands are in accordance to the agreeable universal standards and they see why IEBC should make things difficult.He added that the European union team of observers that met IEBC team on Thursday had reviewed their demands that ought to be met before elections slightly different from what they have.
NASA also turned remarks by Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju who distanced that party with Nyeri Town Member of parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu’s petition seeking removal of chief justice David Maraga as hypocritical .Musalia says it was not genuine and an indication that President Kenyatta had begun making true his threats against the supreme court judges.
