BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,14TH SEPT 2017-A Memorial service for the nine students who lost their lives at the Moi Girls School fire was held on Thursday at the school premises with calls to have safety measures put in school adhered to.
Addressing the meeting education permanent secretary Dr Belio Kipsang says government will continue to work together with education stakeholders to ensure that safety school manuals are respected and adhered to.
The service was also attended by Area member of parliament Ken Okoth,Nairobi Women rep Esther passaries,Deputy president Wife Racheal Ruto among others.
The 9 students perished while asleep in their dormitory two weeks ago after fire erupted.One student who is a suspect was arraigned in court on Wednesday where she face 9 count of murder .The 14 year old was however released on a kshs 200,000 cash bail with a surety of the same amount.
Milimani law court judge Luka Kimaru ordered the parties to present themselves in court Friday when they will receive new directive on the date of the hearing.This comes even as the parents starts burial arrangements for their children after the completion of the identification process of the bodies which were burnt beyond recognition.
Addressing the press on Tuesday at the Chiromo mortuary in Nairobi while releasing results of the DNA test conducted on all 9 bodies,the deputy director at the National Disaster management unit Pius Masaai aslo promised that all the affected parents will be supported on the burial arrangements
