BY JOHN WERU,14TH SEPT 2017-President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised that the government will continue to increase investments & implement programmes to support smallholder farmers, youth, women, fishermen & pastoralists.Speaking on Thursday during the official opening the 2017 A.S.K. Nyeri National Show at Kabiru-ini showground in Nyeri County,the head of state said the future was in the agricultural sector adding that if well supported the sector has high potential of creating massive job opportunities to the youth.”My Government has continued to enhance investment in the agricultural sector especially in increased access to inputs & markets by farmers to sustainably produce and market various commodities for increased food security, income generation and improved livelihoods”.he said.
The president said there was a deliberate effort to boost growth in the agriculture sector by addressing the major challenges facing the sector.He added that Food security remains a priority in his government development agenda.
”Any technology and innovation that promotes agricultural and industrial development must be embraced”he added.
Kenyatta says in Kenya, agricultural development is a key to industrialization as most of the industries are agro-based,which contributes significantly to the development of this County and the Country at large.
Commending on this year’s them which mainly centers on innovation and technology.he said theme emphasizes the importance of innovations & technology as key drivers in enhancing food security, agricultural growth & trade.
