Ulinzi Stars beat sofapaka 2-1 in an KPL encounter staged at Green Stadium Kericho

BY SAMSON MBII,13TH SEPT 2017-Ulinzi Stars  on Wednesday  deemed  hopes of Sofapaka  dethroning Gor Mahia  from the current top position in the table  after beating them  2-1  in a league match staged at Green Stadium Kericho.

Sofapaka were dominant in the opening minutes of the title but struggled to created chances in the match. Ulinzi Stars on the other had two good chances but Waruru failed to beat George Opiyo for an opening goals.

Second attempt came from a free kick but George Opiyo punched the ball out for a corner kick. Sofapaka made an early substitution pulling off Wesley Onguso and replaced him with Humphrey Okoti.

After a goalless first half, goals started flowing in the final half. At the 52nd minute Ulinzi managed to break Ulinzi Stars defence. Oliver Ruto cross was headed in for a goal by Cliff Kasuti.

Eight minutes later the Soldier doubled the lead and this time it was Kasuti who crafted the goal while Samuel Onyango put the ball in the net for a 2-0 lead.

On form Umaru Kasumba pulled one back for Batoto Ba Mungu after a delivery from Willis Ouma at the 67th minute.

Ulinzi Stars have now picked seven wins from Sofapaka FC. The win takes Ulinzi Stars to position five on the league standings with 36 points while Sofapaka FC remain second.
