BY NAMULONGO PETER,NAIROBI,12TH SEPT 2017-President Uhuru Kenyatta has made true his promise that the opening of the 12th parliament will go on despite the decision by the opposition to boycott the same event.
President Kenyatta arrived at parliament building shortly after 2:30 pm Tuesday ready to preside over the bicameral house sitting .Upon his arrival the head of state inspected a guard of honor mounted on his behalf by police officers from various police departments before proceeding to parliament.
The end of the session was expected to be the head of state’s speech to the country where he is to explain how he will govern the country assisted by both houses of Senate and the national assembly.
On the other Hand the national super Alliance principals are at Kibera in Nairobi where they will have public rally and address their supporters.On Monday 11th Sept NASA made it clear that it will not attend the session claiming that president Kenyatta does not have power to summon such a session.
Led by Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula,NASA claimed that the president enjoys temporay incumbency after his win was nullified by the supreme court on September 1st and therefore untill the fresh round of elections slated for 17TH of October is held and the president sworn into office legally is when he will have such powers as per the constitution.
President Kenyatta has maintained that the session will go on since both speakers of both houses are president and the schedules to conduct house business was in place.
